by posted 09/09/2017

REMINDER THAT 11U TRYOUTS START TONIGHT AND 12U TRYOUTS START SUNDAY.  IF YOUR SON IS INTERESTED IN PLAYING TRAVEL, PLEASE REGISTER THEM ONLINE PRIOR TO ATTENDING TRYOUTS.

Dear MTBSA Families,

As we head into late September we will be holding tryouts for our 2018 Spring Travel Teams.

Along with the skills that players will continue to develop through their recreation program experience, our travel program offers players the opportunity to receive further development through weekly winter training sessions and playing more baseball. Players will have the opportunity to play 12-14 competitive travel games in addition to their recreation games. They will also have the opportunity to play in 2-3 tournaments in May-July.  Playing Travel requires an additional time commitment from the player.

If your player is looking for an opportunity to supplement his 2017 recreation season, we encourage him to try out for the appropriate team.

There is a $50 Travel fee that will be used to cover Travel League Fees, Umpire Costs, & Game Balls for the Travel Season.  Registration is required in order to attend tryouts.  If you are not selected to a team the $50 will be refunded.

Here is the link to the 2018 Travel Registration.

New 2018 USA Baseball Bat Regulations
by posted 09/01/2017

NEW BAT REGULATIONS FOR 2018

In the Spring we advised our members about the new bat regulations starting 1/1/2018.  As of January 1, 2018 all youth baseball leagues are requiring players to use bats with the USA baseball stamp.  Below is a link from Dick's explaining the new standard in more detail.

http://protips.dickssportinggoods.com/sports-and-activities/baseball/2018-usa-baseball-youth-bat-standard-change?camp=EML:DSG_PRM:08212017_08212017_USABatLaunch:Body_Video&customerkey=67622701-18&mcid=197757365&hdpid=da0c84b0-b293-4317-9cd4-0c05d584ebb6

This change applies to baseball only.  It does not affect softball.

What this means for our MTBSA families is:

A. All MTBSA baseball players up to and including the Connie Mack division must use a bat with the new USA Baseball label on it.  Bats following the USABat standard are available for sale as of September 1, 2017.  To identify officially-sanctioned youth bats, look for the "USA Baseball" licensing mark, located on the taper.

B. Regarding T-ball players, the USA Baseball Tee Ball Sticker Program is an initiative designed to allow for the continued use of T-ball bats that were manufactured prior to the implementation of the new USABat standard. This program will allow individuals and families to purchase approved stickers marked with the USA Baseball logo and language which reads: ONLY FOR USE WITH APPROVED TEE BALLS. Stickers will be available for purchase online via USABaseballShop.com beginning September 1, 2017.

The bats that were used this past year will not be allowed to be used after 1/1/2018 (with the exception of T-ball which will require the new sticker)

This is a great time to take advantage of the 20% coupon for Dick's on September 16 to purchase a new bat (and maybe tuck it away for Santa to give).

There are several websites online if you want to research this more.  Below is a great link or you can Google new USA bat standard 2018.
